Introduction to Writing (3rd-5th) - Mrs. Barbara Nannini ($400/year, 10 student minimum) This class is designed for students with very little or no prior writing experience; it is meant to be taken over two years. Basic spelling, grammar, and mechanics as well as development of basic writing skills are taught in a fun environment that includes reading classic literature, short stories, and poetry. Group discussion and presentations are also incorporated. This class gently helps students to develop confidence in their reading, writing, and presentation abilities. Class and discussions are taught from a Biblical worldview. A booklist will be sent out this summer.
Pre-Algebra (7th-high school) - Mr. Bert Sharpton ($350/year, 5 student minimum, 10 student maximum) The Pre-Algebra Class based on the Saxon Math 8/7 math with Pre-Algebra textbook, Third Edition, Student Edition will have the objective to give the student a good working foundation and understanding of the basic math concepts needed for Algebra 1. Some previously taught concepts like working with fractions, geometric shapes, and simple word problems will be reviewed and reinforced in the first several class sessions. New concepts will be introduced such as graphing functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, and solving algebraic equations. "Learn by doing" is the goal - there will be instruction and visual aids, working together on problems in class, small quizzes and doing homework as well. Required curriculum: Saxon Math 8/7 math with Pre-Algebra textbook, Third Edition, Student Edition Recommended: Knowledge of 5-6th Grade Math concepts and a calculator or smart phone that has square root and exponent capability.
Period 2: 10:00am - 10:55am
Beginning Literature & Composition (6th-8th) - Mrs. Barbara Nannini ($400/year, 10 student minimum) This class is designed to be a two year course for students who have already learned some basic writing skills. We will continue to grow in grammar and mechanics as well as development of writing skills taught in a fun environment that includes reading classic literature, short stories, and poetry. Group discussion and presentations are also incorporated. This class helps students to develop confidence in their reading, writing and presentation abilities. Class and discussions are taught from a Biblical worldview. A booklist will be sent out this summer.
Algebra 1 (8th-high school) - Mr. Bert Sharpton ($350/year, 5 student minimum / 10 student maximum) The Algebra 1 Class based on the Saxon Algebra 1 math textbook will have the objective to give the student high school level instruction.
Topics will include: signed numbers, exponents, solving equations, two equations with unknowns, graphing equations, scientific notation, ratio, percent, variation, unit conversions, geometry, perimeter, area, volume, English to metric conversion, and surface area..

Physics (3rd-6th) - Mrs. Andrea Camarena ($350/year, 5 student minimum / 12 student maximum) Nebulas. Magnetism. Flight. Our Elementary Physics class will guide your student through an exciting exploration of the world of physics starting with the basics of Newton’s Laws of Motion and will build step-by-step to explain the complex movements of planets and asteroids. Topics will include: Forces and Motion, Simple Machines, Light, Sound, Electricity, Magnetism, Flight, and Space. Students will also learn about the following inventors: Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Galileo Galilei. Weekly experiments will make the lessons come alive and will include: creating optical illusions, launching bottle rockets, mapping the solar system, and more. We will be using the Noeo Physics curriculum and students will maintain a binder with handouts and lab reports. There will be additional worksheets assigned as homework to help solidify the lessons and periodic quizzes will be given to help parents in their assessment of their student's progress. Enrollment in this course will require payment of a Lab Fee of $60 paid to the tutor on the first day of class.
Period 3: 11:00am - 11:55am
Math Fluency (3rd-5th) - Mrs. Mia Claus ($350/year, 5 student minimum / 10 student maximum) This class will primarily use games to master basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division math facts. An assessment tool will be utilized to monitor the progress with a goal of improving students' own personal best. Practice worksheets will be provided for home use. We will be using books such as Math Fact Fluency by Jennifer Bay Williams and lots of math manipulatives and games in class.
Chemistry (6th-12th) - Mrs. Elena Gray-Blanc ($350/year, 5 student minimum / 10 student maximum So many of our normal daily activities are chemistry in action: boiling water for tea, adding salt to food, mixing soap and sugar to make liquid for blowing bubbles. Understanding the processes underlying all of these seemingly mundane events brings a new sense of wonder to the world around us! This course will introduce the concepts of matter, energy, atoms, chemical bonds, radioactivity, and biochemical processes (and much more!) to middle school and high school students. Completing this course will leave students with a college-prep level of understanding of chemistry, and hopefully also instill a life-long love of and fascination with the way everything in the universe interacts on a microscopic level. We will complete an age-appropriate chemistry textbook, worksheets, and some hands-on lab activities as possible throughout the year. Assigned coursework may vary depending on the age of the student. Specific curriculum info will be sent out this summer but budget to spend no more than $80 for your textbook and lab fee.
Period 4: 12:30pm - 2:00pm
Oregon Trail Study (3rd - 6th) - Mrs. Nicole Jahangard ($400/year, 5 student minimum / 12 student maximum) The Oregon Trail game of the 90s comes to life. Every day the children will come in and be met with the difficulties and progress of their class covered wagon! Each triumph and set back will teach us about History, Geography, Early Medicine and Disease Prevention, Simple Finances, Life Skills We will also meet notable figures on the trail.
***There will also be an optional 3 day trip to Sacramento, pioneer town, & gold panning will be planned for the end of the 2nd semester. Finance options available through the tour company., More details to come. Approximately $450/ per person includes flights, lunch/ dinner, AC tour bus, tour guide, entry to all points of interest. Families are welcome to join. Ages 7+.
Homework will be given to include the parents in the conversation of the class: Writing assignments, Reading assignments, Model projects, And extra credit will be available
